The Big House is one of the oldest homes in Matina Subdivision, the first subdivision in Matina, Davao City. Built in the early 1950s and located on the main street of the Subdivision, before the advent of gated communities called ‘Villages’, the architecture of the house shows the design features of that period which include a hexagonal ceiling design with moorish influences. The home showcases the furnitures and decors collected by the matriarch of the family from the early 1960s.
The Big House was the home of the Robillo Family. When the 11 children grew up and had families of their own, the family home became referred to as the “Big House” where the extended family would get together for Sunday lunch, celebrate birthdays of family members, celebrate Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Today, The Big House is a conveniently located Bed and Breakfast with a Restaurant that offers inexpensive dishes from the family recipes. The Lanai and the Dining Room are suitable for intimate affairs or small conferences. With only 11 rooms, a relaxed Lanai dining area, an intimate formal Dining Room, a lovely big garden and a warm and friendly staff, The Big House gives the traveller the cosy, comfortable and warm feeling of being at home while away from home.
